The Nore Valley Park Easter Egg Hunt

One of the longest-running Easter events in Kilkenny is back this year, bigger and better than ever. The Nore Valley Park Easter Egg Hunt takes place on the farm between Saturday 1st and Sunday 9th April 2023 from 10am – 4pm. Hunt far and wide for hidden eggs, and claim sweets and chocolates as a reward. You’ll enjoy lots of games and fun and you might even meet the Easter Bunny while you’re there. There is lots to do in Nore Valley Park like cuddling a bunny or baby chick, bottle feeding lambs or goat kids, enjoying go-karts and tractor & trailer rides, playing crazy golf and giant chess or meeting a selection of lovely farm animals. There are playgrounds, a picnic area, toilets and refreshments available on the farm too.

Castlecomer

If you’ve never been to Castlecomer, you’re in for a treat. The town is famous for being a historic coal mining town. The main attraction is the wonderful Castlecomer Discovery Park, a beautiful 80-acre woodland park where visitors can enjoy both indoor and outdoor experiences including a tree-top adventure walk, climbing wall, woodland trails, zipline and octagon, canoeing, archery and the Coal Mining Museum. The Craft Yard is home to the town’s best creatives, selling art, pottery, silver jewellery, interiors, fine art painting, fine jewellery and ceramics. There is a cafe on-site in case you need to freshen up or refuel. Pop into a local pub in Castlecomer for a bite to eat and enjoy a welcome like no other.

Ireland Medieval Mile

The learning never stops, even when you’re on an Easter Break. The Medieval Mile is a discovery trail running through the centre of Kilkenny city linking the 13th-century St Canice’s Cathedral and the Anglo-Norman Kilkenny Castle with lots to see and do in between. You’ll learn more about the history and heritage of the town, some of its most famous (or infamous!) residents and enjoy medieval architecture along the way. It’s also home to fantastic cafes, bars, restaurants and an array of boutique and independent shops.

The highlight of the Medieval Mile is Kilkenny Castle, a historic stone castle which was built in the early 13th century. Year-round tours are available, and you’ll get to see how the other half lived while admiring many artefacts within. The parkland of the castle has 50 acres to explore or stop to enjoy the playgrounds to give yourself a break. It is the perfect place to have a picnic.

Dunmore Caves

Even the most perfectly planned days go awry when bad weather strikes. If you find yourself in Kilkenny without an umbrella, head underground to shelter and learn more about the natural history of our fascinating city. History and geology meet at Dunmore Cave to give an interesting and unique learning experience. Learn more about this series of chambers formed over millions of years with a quarter of a mile of passages leading 150ft underground at its deepest point. There is also the mystery of the skeleton found with a bag of gold – a nobleman running from Viking invaders or a thief running from robbing a monastery? You decide. Admission to Dunmore Caves is guided only so book this fascinating tour in advance if you can.
