Golfing in Ireland:

Golfing in Ireland is a real treat and one of the favoured pastimes among young and old. From pitch and putt to full championship courses, Ireland has a fantastic array of golfing options to suit all skill sets and levels. We are also the proud origin of some of golfs all-time greats. Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington are all champion golfers who have proud Irish roots and favour the Irish courses for practice and competition. Irelands golf courses are full of well-manicured lawns and lush greenery, mostly down to the passion for the sport and the copious amount of rain we get every year!

Irish Open in Mount Juliet:

We are delighted to announce that this year one of Kilkenny’s most beautiful Golf Resorts, Mount Juliet, is hosting to the largest Irish golfing competitions, the Irish Open. Sponsored by Dubai Duty-Free, the tournament was first played in 1927 and continues to attract the best-golfing stars from across the country in a challenging competition to win the grand prize which is a sizeable sum! Mount Juliet are a very deserving host this year as their course is on par with the best in the world. It has established itself as one of Ireland’s premier golf destinations welcoming players of all abilities for one of the most scenic games in the South East.

Where to go for practice:

If you’d like to get a few good swings in, in preparation for the Irish Open, being held in April 2020, Kilkenny has some gorgeous spots for practice. Besides Mount Juliet, which is a gorgeous but pricey round, try Gowran Park Golf Club. The family-run course takes full advantage of the magnificent backdrop of the Blackstairs Mountain Range and many of the holes are among the mature woodland and lake settings of the Annaly Estate. The course is an excellent test for a low handicap golfer whilst also being very enjoyable for the middle to high handicappers.

Another course to try in the area is Mountain View Golf Course. The family-owned and run course has a true sense of community created by its passionate and knowledgeable staff. The beautiful 18-hole course is designed to be an exciting challenge for golfers of all levels and the views alone are worth the visit. After a long day of golfing, pop into The Greenhouse Bar for a debrief and a few well-deserved drinks.
