Something very unique happens in Kilkenny on New Year’s Day. On the first day of the year, rain hail or shine, 100s of people gather wearing their finest wellies, costumes, and other fun outfits, and theyrace along the streets of nearby Castlecomer. The idea is to raise as much as possible for charity and it’s a really fun day out for young and old. As well as racers, there are floats, tractors, vintage cars andmore to admire. There are prizes for the best float and the best dressed and you can check their website for inspiration and past winners. Finish off the race in a local Castlecomer pub and enjoy the small-town feel of this town with a big heart.
