Your Accessible Hotel

Your Accessible Hotel

Do you struggle to find a hotel suitable for your unique needs? Are you in a wheelchair or have limited mobility and are looking for an accessible-to-all hotel so you can enjoy your break comfortably? The Hoban Hotel in Kilkenny has recently been awarded a Gold Ring by Accessible Mojo and are delighted to welcome people of all needs to enjoy our newly refurbished hotel in Kilkenny.

Did you know that 15% of the world’s population has some form of disability? Or that 25% of the entire tourism market will be made up of those with accessibility needs by 2020, due to age-related impairments? These figures surprised the staff of The Hoban Hotel so we decided to ensure our property was able to accommodate tourists and travellers from all walks of life. It is important to us that all of our guests, no matter their age ability or any other mobility restriction has a fantastic experience and a completely comfortable stay with us. Mobility and accessibility issues come in many forms, from wheelchair access to ensuring there is enough space for a pram or buggy to pass safely and smoothly through the hotel and we have done our best to encapsulate them all.

Our car park has five accessible parking spaces free for guests use with a valid pass. Our lobby, bar and restaurant are all open plan, with no steps up or down, making moving freely and choosing where to sit a lot easier. Our fully accessible public bathrooms are located on the lower ground floor, which can be accessed via the elevator. Our extra-wide front door is automated to open when a guest approaches, saving a lot of pushing, pulling and struggling with luggage, children or walking aids. We also welcome guide dogs and other service animals.

Our menus are in larger print for those with vision or literacy issues. Our lifts have raised numbers and Braille on the buttons, as well as a voice announcement of the floors. As well as all of these special features, we have a team of well-trained and competent staff who are willing to go above and beyond to ensure our guests are accommodated.

We have five dedicated fully-accessible bedrooms for guests use, one of which is on the first floor. Each of these has lowered door handles, beds, sinks, wardrobe rails and door viewers to make it easier to navigate. We have left extra space on either side of the bed as well as space below. The fire alarm in the bedroom is not only audible but we have installed a flashing beacon alarm for our hard of hearing guests.

Our specially designed bathrooms, one in each accessible room, are altered from our normal bathroom design but are still stylish and functional. They are each equipped with hand and grab rails, a lowered shower seat and mirror, adjustable shower head and height, space below the sink and an emergency alarm cord should you run into difficulty. The bathrooms and shower areas are spacious and without ledges or shower trays so guests can move around freely and uninhibited even if wheelchair bound.

We are passionate about ensuring each and every one of our guests have an enjoyable and memorable experience in The Hoban Hotel and will do our utmost to ensure that every guest is accommodated. If you would like to book one of our accessible rooms, simply choose ‘accessible room’ from the available rooms list. Alternatively, you can call our reservations team who will be happy answer any further questions.
